Making of Schwarzer Berg Project – From real-world data to a detailed digital environment.

For our latest project for DLR, we recreated an 8 Km road network in Braunschweig, Germany, building a digital twin ready for real-time simulation in Unreal Engine.

The workflow brought together multiple data sources – OpenDRIVE, OpenStreetMap, high-resolution elevation data and aerial imagery – to reconstruct the area in Trian3DBuilder, including roads, buildings, vegetation and detailed ground properties.

One of the most interesting challenges was developing a new facade workflow, allowing individual building faces to be textured while maintaining visual consistency across the architecture.

The final result was brought into Unreal Engine, turning real-world data into a detailed, real-time representation of the area, ready for simulation.

A great example of how geospatial data, 3D reconstruction and real-time technology can come together to build realistic digital worlds. 🌍
